Maria Daniela Silva (MDS) obtained her master's degree in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Minho (UM) in October 2016. From December 2016 to December 2017, she was a research fellow at the Centre of Biological Engineering (CEB), UM, Braga. MDS was then awarded a studentship from Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia (FCT) to perform her PhD at the same institution. During her PhD, she had the opportunity to develop part of her work at the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL), Braga. Also, in 2021, she performed a 6-month visiting period at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Hospital and the Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering at Harvard University, Boston, USA. In July 2022, MDS completed her PhD degree in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Minho. Since then, she has worked as a research fellow and is currently a post-doc researcher in an FCT-funded project (DeathTrigger - PTDC/BIA-MIC/2312/2020). MDS has published 12 peer-reviewed papers in international journals, of which 8 as first-author (2 of them with a co-authorship), and 2 book chapters (h index = 8). Her work has been published in high quality journals, including International Journal of Pharmaceutics, ACS Infectious Diseases, FEMS Microbiology Reviews and Critical Reviews in Microbiology. MDS has also authored several communications, being the presenting author of 4 oral communications in international conferences and 6 posters. Additionally, she is a reviewer for international peer-reviewed journals. MDS has been an instructor in various editions of the Hands-on Phage Biotechnology Course and was a staff member of the 'Viruses of Microbes 2022' international conference. Her involvement extends to outreach activities, including the CEB open day, workshops, and exhibitions. She is currently the co-supervisor of a master's student and previously mentored other two students. MDS is a member of the COST action CA21145 "European Network for Diagnosis and Treatment of Antibiotic-resistant Bacterial Infections", the Microbiology Society, and the Spanish Portuguese Local Chapter of the Controlled Release Society (SPLC-CRS).
