Arantxa Eceiza is Full Professor at the Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering Department at the Faculty of Engineering of Gipuzkoa (UPV/EHU). Currently she is the head of the ¿Materials+Technologies¿ Research Group (GMT), which has been recognized as a consolidated research group of the Basque University System. The group is formed by around up 30 researchers (permanent staff, post-doc researchers and PhD students). The scientific career of Prof. Eceiza began in 1991 with the incorporation to the GMT, where she made her PhD thesis under the direction of Prof. Mondragon, studying the structure/properties relationships of polyurethanes, which actually is a consolidated research line within GMT. In addition to polyurethanes, her research focus on the valorization of biomass derived products, synthesis of biobased polymers, biopolymers and their (nano)composites with different nanoentities, such as nanocellulose, chitin nanocrystals, carbon nanostructures, among others, using different synthesis routes and several advanced processing technologies, in order to develop new materials with improved properties, as well as functional and smart materials. She has supervised 14 PhDs, 8 of them with European Mention and 4 awarded with the Extraordinary Doctorate by the UPV/EHU, and currently she is supervising 7 PhDs at different stages of realization. Prof. Eceiza has published more than 190 articles in journals indexed in the JCR (70% in T1) and several book chapters, with more than 4700 citations and a h index of 38. She is also co-author of a hundred of communications in international congresses, as well as 4 patents. She has been member of the Scientific and/or Organizing Committee in more than 10 international conferences and workshops, 4 of them organized by the GMT. She has participated, in many of them as lead researcher, in 17 projects of the National R&D&I Plan, in more than 50 regional projects, in 5 from European Union calls and more than 20 projects financed by companies. The teaching activity of Prof. Eceiza focus mainly on Chemistry and Materials Science in Engineering Degrees (Faculty of Engineering of Gipuzkoa) and Biomaterials and Biocomposites in post-graduate Masters. In addition, she is member of the Academic Committee of the Master in Renewable Materials Engineering and Responsible of the Renewable Materials Engineering PhD Program of the UPV/EHU, recognized by the Spanish Ministry of Education as a highly qualified Ph.D. program with the Quality (MCD2008-00126) and Excellence (MEE2011-0372) Mentions. She has received 5 favorable evaluations of her teaching activity at the UPV/EHU (five-year periods of teaching) and in the external evaluation of the educational merits (teaching, research and management) carried by UNIBASQ (Agency for Quality Evaluation and Accreditation of Basque University System) she obtained a score of >100/100, which corresponds to level A1 (recognition of Excellence).
