Johann Lavaud has a Ph.D. in Marine Biology (Université P. et M. Curie-Paris 6, France; 2002) and a Master in Oceanography and Marine Biology (Université P. et M. Curie-Paris 6, France; 1998). He received his Habilitation (French HDR) in Marine Biology and Ecology in 2015 (University of La Rochelle, France). He was a Research Scientist of the CNRS and currently Adjunct Professor at the Université Laval (Québec, Canada) until July 2020, when he started at the LEMAR, University of Brest (France). His research interests include: i) Physiology of photosynthetic productivity: regulation of photosynthesis vs. environment, focus on light response, ii) Ecophysiology of microalgae (sea-ice algae, phytoplankton, microphytobenthos): functional and ecological diversity vs. environment, focus on diatoms; iii) Arctic marine ecosystems (floe and water column) and costal estuarine ecosystems (intertidal flats); iv) Methodology of chlorophyll fluorescence: improvement of the in situ and lab photosynthetic activity measurement. He has worked mainly on diatoms, both planktonic and benthic forms, and more specifically on the response of their photosynthetic activity to the environment (light, temperature, salinity). He uses a coupled lab-field approach at different scales: from the gene to the ecosystem via the cell and the community. Progressively, he got interested in understanding how photosynthetic regulatory processes influence the diversity of diatom growth forms/species among marine habitats. He has published more than 66 papers and 7 book chapters (h-index 31) and lead several research projects. Full CV: https://tinyurl.com/znma2eyw
