Graciosa Quelhas Teixeira is a Biomedical Engineer and Postdoctoral Researcher at the Institute of Orthopaedic Research and Biomechanics (UFB), Ulm University, Germany, since 2017. UFB is an institution with recognized contributions to the scientific community, renowned in the spine field and with a close connection to the society and the needs in the field. Her main research interests focus on better understanding the mechanobiology of the intervertebral disc (IVD) and meniscus, and the inflammatory response associated with disc degeneration, as well as contributing to the development of new strategies for disc and meniscus regeneration. Graciosa collaborates/collaborated in 9 national and international projects and is/was principal investigator of 5 projects. She is involved in the development of new study models of human, bovine and mouse IVD and meniscus, with focus on the complement system activation and annulus fibrosus biomechanics. She is also experienced in stem cell-based tissue engineering strategies and biomaterial testing for IVD applications. In parallel, Graciosa is involved in lecturing at the Ulm University and Ulm University of Applied Sciences. She co-supervises/co-supervised 6 BSc/MSc students, 4 medical doctoral students and several interns. Graciosa contributed to 23 publication in international peer-review journals, 13 as first/last (co-)author. Her publications have been cited 550 times (h-index: 11; SCOPUS - 25/09/2022). She contributed to 96 abstracts accepted for oral communications, posters or special posters, presented in relevant national and international conferences of the respective research areas (ORS, Eurospine, ISSLS, Termis, ESB, among others), in which several studies were awarded. She received multiple national and international awards and scholarships, including the GRAMMER / European Spine Journal Award for Best Paper (Teixeira et al., Eur Spine J, 2021) in 2021. Graciosa is an active member of research societies such as the ISSLS, European Society of Biomechanics, the Orthopaedic Research Society (ORS), the Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine International Society (TERMIS) and the MusculoSkeletal Interdisciplinary Translational Young Researchers (MuSkITYR). She is an active reviewer for the European Spine Journal, among others, and Editor of a Research Topic in Frontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology. Graciosa is also Ambassador for the ExzellenziaUlm LinkedIn group for young female academics of the Ulm University.
