Sumita Goswami is a Materials Researcher (Specialization in polymeric materials and composites). She did her Master's in Physics in 2007 and obtained her Ph.D. in Materials Science and Nanotechnology in 2014, both from Jadavpur University, Kolkata, India. After finishing her doctoral work, she joined the Department of Materials Science of FCT-UNL in Portugal as a research fellow and later joined the CENIMAT-i3N group (FCT-UNL) as a post-doctoral researcher to work on polymer-based device engineering. Presently, she is working as a Senior Researcher in Sensor Technology for a Co-LAB namely ALMASCIENCE in Portugal. She has more than 15 years of admirable research experience in the field of Materials Science and Nanotechnology with a demonstrated history of : -Development, processing, and functionalization of polymer and cellulose based materials and their composites. -Designing polymer and its composites for multifunctional applications like energy harvester, sensors, data storage, supercapacitor, TFT, electrorheology. -Developing and designing devices for sustainable green technology, projecting Zero E-Waste Challenge. -Wearable electronics and paper-based electronics. -Good understanding of materials, positive mental attitude, commitment to excellence, and demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects, collaboration, and troubleshooting. She has published several papers including review articles in high-impact peer-reviewed ISI journals (e.g. Advanced Materials, Advanced Functional Materials, Nano Energy, Advanced Materials Technologies, Electrochimica Acta among others). She has a long-time involvement in reviewing research works for several eminent journal houses. Recently, she is also associated with the MDPI journal "Sustainability" for editing a special issue on "Sustainable Materials for Renewable Energy Applications". Besides, she is currently involved in mentoring and supervising master and Ph.D. students in both ALMASCIENCE and CENIMAT-i3N for several ongoing projects. Very recently, she has successfully completed an internal project in ALMASCIENCE on making advanced prototypes of energy-generating vibration sensors with eco-design as one of the main goals. Some of those prototypes were exhibited and demonstrated in European Researchers´Night 2021, 2023 (Lisbon), JORTEC 2022 (DCM, FCT-UNL), along with the CENIMAT-i3N group (one of ALMASCIENCE associates). Besides, she is always involved and takes active participation (as supervisor to the students or researchers who demonstrate in such events ) in popular scientific events like Cîencia Viva, FCT EXPO through which the science meets the society and students in general. She was one of the organizers for symposium on functional bio based materials in the Brazillian MRS in 2023. She was also organizer of the symposium on 3D biomaterials structures in the MRS 2024 (Germany). She is involved in currently patent search and writing for ALMASCIENCE with M-ERA NET project BRIGHT which is attributed to develop biofoams for energy harvesting and sensing applications.

2021/09/24 - 2021/09/24 "Eco-sustainable devices for mechanical-to-electrical energy conversion enabling low power consumption autonomous devices": This was the demonstrator we presented together with the CENIMAT-i3N group. More than 500 visitors came to our desk which included kids to adults, teachers to smart professionals. The idea was to present our prototypes to the public for exhibiting science while at the same time spreading social awareness about green and sustainable energy.

European Researchers´Night 2021
2021/07/19 - 2021/07/23 Together with CENIMAT-i3N researchers took active participation in this event. One of the Ph.D. students under my mentoring demonstrated a workshop on "Fibras electrónicas que geram energia!" (Electronic fibers that generate energy) to the students of 9th-12th standards. This whole week of July, the students were learning with us, how they can generate energy from our daily waste energies with body movements with functionalized textile fibers. Starting from functionalization to device making to application-they learnt and executed all by themselves.

Ciência Viva no Laboratório – Criar Futuro
Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Portugal
2020/11/03 - 2020/11/04 This was a demonstration of several mechanical energy harvester prototypes developed at Cenimat (FCT UNL) during different research projects. The development processes of these devices with planar or linear configurations are also demonstrated, as well as their application when connecting simple electrical devices such as an analog clock and LEDs. RAW Materials University Day 2019
Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Portugal
2019/07/08 - 2019/07/12 It was a 5-day event where many high school and university students come to learn and participate in ongoing research activities. We utilized this platform for reaching directly to the next generation to promote and encourage our latest findings on conducting polymer-based energy harvester. During these days the student functionalize textile fibers with the energy harvesting material by our protocols and they also managed easily to power LEDs with the device they made. They were quite enthusiastic about the outcome of their activity.

EXPO 2019
Universidade Nova de Lisboa Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia, Portugal
2018/07/09 - 2018/07/13 This platform for the scientific workshop was 5 days of research interaction with the students. As an active member of the 1D-Neon project, I was responsible to teach the students how to functionalize textile fibers for fiber transistors. They were excited to learn the process of fiber transistor fabrication.
