Hugo Dinis is an Assistant Researcher in CMEMS-UMinho at University of Minho. He finished his Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering in 2021 at the University of Minho and the M.Sc. Degree in Biomedical Engineering (specialization in Medical Electronics) in 2015 by the same University. He was distinguished with the Caixa Geral de Depósitos University of Minho student award (2015) for his top performance as a M.Sc. student. He also received the IEEE Antenna and Propagation Society Doctoral Research Grant (2018) for the innovative work he was developing for his Ph.D. thesis. He has 7 years of experience lecturing the experimental components of curricular units such as Electronics, Circuit Analysis, Project and Design of Circuits, Electronic Complements and Digital Circuits, Microcontrollers and Interfaces, Advanced Bioinstrumentation and Electromagnetic Waves and Antennas. Hugo has participated in 7 funded research projects, one of which as PI where the goal was to develop a miniaturized ultrasound probe based on the photoacoustic effect. Despite his exceptionally early-stage scientific career, H. Dinis is a proficient researcher with a good publishing track-record: he published 10 papers in Q1 and Q2 peer-reviewed international journals, with a h-index of 7 and over 280 citations, according to Google Scholar. He is also a co-author of 2 European Patents. He has worked with co-authors from international institutions such as the Grenoble Institute of Neurosciente (France), University of Tunis (Tunisia) and the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory - INL. He has also presented 6 of his works in international conferences and actively contributes to the scientific community as a peer-reviewer and has integrated multiple academic Master Thesis examination board as opponent. H. Dinis' research interests include, but are not limited to, radiofrequency applications, electronics and miniaturization of medical devices. He has experience with photoacoustics, ultrasound, electromagnetic simulation, electronic circuit design, fast prototyping techniques, programming (including microcontrollers), design and testing of radiofrequency systems, wireless communications, and antenna design and characterization. His work has constantly revolved around the miniaturization of medical devices, with the development of extremely small antennas in his Master thesis, to the increase of wireless power transfer capabilities to allow medical implants to have smaller batteries, to the most recent funded project aimed to develop miniaturized ultrasound probes based on the photoacoustic effect. Additionally, during his Master's he dwelved into machine learning and contributed to a scientific publication on the topic, which has around 40 citations according to Google Scholar.
