I have a strong background in biochemistry, developed through my BSc degree, during which I gained knowledge and skills across various subfields of biochemistry, chemistry, and biology. I had contact with research in early in my academic path, receiving a scientific initiation grant in materials chemistry to study the application of activated carbon in the liquid phase for pesticide removal, even before starting my master's degree. This work led to the publication of my first paper.1 In 2015 I started my master’s degree in chemistry also at the University of Évora. After the first year, the opportunity arose to integrate a research grant in the area of Organic Synthesis at the University of Aveiro. The work developed within the scope of this project was conducted under the supervision of Doctor Augusto C. Tomé, whose theme was related to "Thiazolothiazoles for dye-sensitized solar cells ". During this period, I gained experience in synthetic methods, purification (chromatographic techniques), and structural and molecular characterization (NMR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry) of organic compounds. After undertaking this project, I was certain I wanted to pursue a life linked to research and contribute to science, particularly through the synthesis and modification of compounds that can benefit society. Since an early stage, I have secured funding for my research, being awarded with an FCT PhD fellowship. PhD and researcher experience at LAQV-Requimte (Aveiro) provided me with expertise in organic chemistry and material science with a focus on biological and technical applications. I acquired skills in a wide range of techniques and high practical knowledge in the synthesis and characterization of Diketopyrrolopyrrole molecules for a wide range of applications. The goal of my work has been to improve their photophysical properties and applications by creating new approaches for their synthesis and functionalization. During the year of 2021, I won a Fulbright scholarship in USA to work at the University of North Carolina (Michael G. Walter group), in Charlotte. During this period not only, I had the opportunity to contact with a new culture, which strengthened my adaptability and communication skills, but I also improved my knowledge and created new research opportunities. In this scholarship, I acquired experience in the preparation and characterization of organic semiconductors (thin films and OLEDs). In this period, I acquired important knowledge in photochemistry related to the lifetime and fluorescence quantum yields determination in solution and solid-state. I also acquired expertise in working in a glove-box environment. During 6 months (September of 2023 and March of 2024) I had the opportunity to work at University of Coimbra, Faculty of Pharmacy under the supervision of Dr. Anthony Burke, where I expanded my knowledge in synthesis and characterization of new molecules, namely tryphtantrin derivatives. In December of 2023 I successfully defended my PhD at University of Aveiro with the theme “Synthesis of Diketopyrrolopyrroles derivatives for technical and biological applications”. In April of 2024, I started my first experience as a postdoctoral fellow at Universitat Politécnica de Catalunya in Kasper Moth -Poulsen group. This experience allowed me to be part of a big European project (Sustain-a-print) and be part of a big research team with great dynamics and that combines a wide range of knowledge fields. This experience has allowed me to acquire strong scientific knowledge in analytical chemistry related to metal extraction from electronic waste and also knowledge in synthesis and photochemical characterization of molecular photoswitches. This experience has also allowed me to have contact with new characterization techniques, a new work environment with a strong multicultural side and new scientific group routines.
