João Queirós graduated in Veterinary Medicine at ICBAS - University of Porto, Portugal, in 2010, completed an MSc in Basic and Applied Research in Wildlife Resources at IREC - University of Castilla-La-Mancha, Spain, in 2012, and obtained his PhD in Biodiversity, Genetics and Evolution at the Faculty of Science - University of Porto, Portugal, in 2017. He is currently a junior researcher at BIOPOLIS, University of Porto. His main research interests are: i) conservation and management of wildlife species, with a particular focus on game and endangered species; ii) studying the epidemiology of infectious diseases in wildlife species, with a particular focus on zoonoses; iii) understanding how population genetics of hosts shape their disease susceptibility/resistance/tolerance, using wildlife species as models; iV) developing eDNA-based tools to improve biodiversity monitoring and disease surveillance; v) development of integrated wildlife monitoring programs for early detection of emerging pathogens and elucidation of disease dynamics in nature, offering a proactive approach towards averting future pandemics within the One Health framework. He has participated in 21 competitive projects (8 European), and is currently leading an FCT exploratory project BAGA-PT. He has experience in supervising students (11 undergraduates, 12 Masters and 4 PhD students), mentoring (5) and examining (5 MSc and 1 PhD). He has published more than 40 papers in SCI journals and reached more than 460 citations on Web of Science Core Collection (~700 Google scholar), with an overall h-index 13 (16 Google Scholar). Active reviewer for 31 scientific journals and 68 completed reviews. He has experience in knowledge dissemination, with 49 scientific communications (25 Oral, 24 Poster) and 16 articles in magazines. He has experience in providing services to various stakeholders (public and private) with 27 scientific reports in the field of wildlife (fish, mammals, birds) management and conservation.
