Sofia Correia is a researcher in the field of healthcare epidemiology and outcomes research, integrated in the Epidemiology Unit from the Institute of Public Health, University of Porto. She is an invited assistant professor at the University of Porto Medical School, teaching clinical epidemiology and health services research in graduate and post-graduate programs. She got her Pharm degree in 2004, followed by a Master in Epidemiology in 2008 and a PhD in Public Health in 2015. Between 2005 and 2015 she was part of the Generation XXI coordination team and used to work in the field of perinatal epidemiology and with indicators of maternal and child health. Since 2015 she has been working in healthcare epidemiology, having interests in the science of indicators for quality of care and patient safety improvement, and the integration of an implementation science approach to promote translation of research into relevant policies. She has been involved in the implementation of quality of care indicators, and evaluation of interventions, making use of and addressing the challenges of secondary data, as the electronic health records data, for quality improvement and research. She has been particularly involved in projects related to infection control and antibiotic resistance, namely regarding drivers of antibiotic prescription, automation of infection surveillance systems, and the evaluation of the effect of antibiotic stewardship interventions.
