Sara Isabel da Silva Martins Francisco (PhD, 2012) is an Assistant Researcher in Evolutionary Genetics of Marine Fishes. She works at ISPA Instituto Universitário de Ciências Psicológicas Sociais e da Vida and is a member of MARE - Marine and Environmental Sciences Centre. Her research has focused on the phylogeography and phylogeny of coastal organisms, the temporal structure of populations, the interannual fluctuations in the genetic diversity of coastal fish and their relationship with the effective population size. She led the ICES Science funded project POPSIZE on estimating marine fish Ne using interannual fluctuations of genetic composition. She is currently venturing into genomics and, since 2018, she is developing an independent line of research, with a more contemporary genetic biomonitoring approach applied to fisheries.
