Opeyemi received his Ph.D. degree in Molecular Biosciences from the Instituto de Tecnologia Química e Biológica António Xavier, Universidade Nova de Lisboa (ITQB-NOVA) in March 2020, under the mentorship of Dr. Maria Miragaia and Prof. Herminia de Lencastre. His doctoral thesis focused on using whole-genome sequencing (WGS) to understand the evolutionary dynamics of Staphylococcus saprophyticus. He also holds an M.Sc degree in Environmental Microbiology from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. His present research interest is in the area of translational genomics; using the combination of phenotypic techniques, WGS, and metagenomic approaches to explore the evolutionary dynamics of microbial pathogens and identify new resistance mechanisms to antimicrobials and genotypes associated with pathophenotypes at the host-pathogen interface. He has published 6 articles in peer-reviewed journals and received 5 awards and/or honors. He participates and/or participated as Ph.D. Student Fellow in 1 project(s) and Research Fellow in 2 project(s).
