I completed my PhD at the University of Cambridge, UK, in 1999. Currently, I am Principal Researcher and member of the Executive Board of the Institute of Astrophysics and Space Sciences, where previously (2012-2018) I led the group "Origin and Evolution of stars and Planets" (25 PhDs and 12 PhD students). I also collaborate regularly with the Faculty of Sciences of the Univ. of Porto as Invited Assistant Professor/collaborator and since 2024 I am part of the Directive Board of the Centre for Astrophysics of this university.\\ Over the years I spent long periods (typically, 6 months at a time) as visitor at distinguished Universities/Research Institutes worldwide, including the HAO (Boulder, USA), Sydney University (Australia), Univ. of Sussex and Univ. of Birmingham (UK).\\ I am strongly involved in space-related consortia, leading one of the 9 top-level Work Packages for the Stellar Science part of the PLATO/ESA Science Management (WP124 ; over 50 researchers) and co-chairing one of 8 Working Groups (WG#4 ; over 150 researchers) for the TESS/NASA Asteroseismic Science Consortium (TASC). I am also a member of the TASC Steering Committee and of the PLATO Stellar Science Board. Previously (2009-2012), I was chair of the roAp stars WG for the Kepler/NASA Asteroseismic Science Consortium. I serve/served in numerous international committees, including the science advisory structure of ESA (AWG), the ESO OPC panels and two of the IAU structures (one as Chair).\\ My scientific research is focused on asteroseismology, with particular emphasis on stellar physics and magnetism. I have over 200 publications (>6400 citations and h-index 38; for an updated list and metrics please see https://ui.adsabs.harvard.edu/public-libraries/j7lJi-n0SE2wUeZ1am1IRA). I receive regular invitations to speak at/integrate the SOC of important conferences in my research field. I presented 20 invited/review talks at international meetings, including large International Symposia, twice at the General Assembly (GA) of the IAU and twice at international PhD Schools. I have also presented 17 invited seminars at prestigious research institutes world-wide. In 2018 I was invited to present the Concluding Remarks at the conference Physics of Oscillating Stars (France) and in 2020 I have been invited as Key Note Speaker for the Cool Stars 21 (a conference series bringing together hundreds of experts in Low-Mass Stars, Solar Physics, and Exoplanets) and to deliver the opening talk at the Liège International Astrophysical Colloquium, The Rising Stars of Asteroseismology (the latter cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic). I was also a member of the SOC for 30 international meetings (5 as Chair).\\ Training young researchers and seeking funding opportunities are also at the top of my priorities as a researcher. I have supervised 43 research projects, including works by 4 postdocs, 10 PhD students and 9 Master students, of which 7 were PhD and Master students enrolled at universities abroad who made extended visits to the University of Porto to work under my supervision. Also, I have been PI of 7 National/Bilateral research projects (summing a total of about 1 MEuro) and Co-I of 3 European projects and 6 other Nationally funded projects.\\ In addition, I am an enthusiastic outreach communicator, presenting public talks and lectures to young children on a regular basis. I also enjoy lecturing and over the past decade I have continuously volunteered some of my time to lecture at the Univ. of Porto.\\ Throughout my career I have responded successfully to highly competitive calls. Noteworthy, I was ranked first (out of 119 candidates) within the physics applicants for a FCT call for Post-docs (2012) and I was awarded the maximum grade (9/9) in my application to the FCT Investigator Progamme (2012)).\\ Finally, I was awarded two prestigious grants/Awards from the Fulbright Commission and the University of Sydney, respectively.
