Sara Pimenta completed her master degree in Biomedical Engineering (major in medical electronics) in 2012 at the University of Minho, and her PhD degree in Biomedical Engineering in 2017 (optoelectronics area) at the same University. She received one award for the best national master dissertation from Fraunhofer (1st MSc Award - Fraunhofer Portugal Challenge 2012). During her PhD (FCT grant SFRH/BD/87605/2012), she spent a few periods at INESC-MN, Lisbon, working in the microfabrication of optical filters. After her PhD, she became a pos-doctoral fellow at CMEMS (Microelectromechanical Systems Research Unit from the University of Minho), working in the microfabrication and characterization of neural probes (at Brain-Lighting project, POCI-01-0247-FEDER-003416). In 2019, she became a contracted researcher also at CMEMS, working in Raman spectroscopy (at OCT-Raman project, PTDC/FIS OTI/28296/2017). Between 2018 and 2020, she was also a scientific associate at INL (International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory), performing microfabrication of neural interfaces and ex-vivo analysis of biological samples using a Raman system. Presently, she continues as a contracted researcher at CMEMS, under CEECIND (reference 2022.00101.CEECIND), working in the area of engineering and technology, particularly, microfabrication, optics, thin-films deposition, and electronic microsystems for biomedical applications. She published more than 20 papers in prestigious international journals, she has 1 Portuguese Patent (PT106367B) and 1 Portuguese (PT) and International (EP) provisional application for patent (PT116977 and EP21188953). She has an h-index of 8. She supervised 5 master dissertations, argued several master dissertations in national and international institutions, and she participated in several events (oral presentations and event organization). Currently, she supervises 2 PhD thesis (FCT grants) and 1 master dissertation, and she is an active reviewer at several international journals.
