Manuel Augusto Gomes de Oliveira Azenha. Concluded a PhD in Chemistry in 2000 at the University of Porto - Faculty of Sciences. Is assistant professor at the University of Porto and researcher at UP's Chemistry Research Center (CIQUP). Published ca. 60 papers in specialized journals. Was involved for over ten years at the Chemistry/Biology interfacial area, namely in the fields of speciation, toxicity and bioavailability, always unders the auspices of FCT fellowships. In that period, developments were achieved in the speciation of trace metals and its toxicity towards microorganisms, as well as speciation and bioavailability of metals present in wines. He always kept a connection with biologists and geologists up till the present. He also became interested in the topic of butyltin contamination of food and drinks and human bioavailability of those species. In the course of this interest, analytical skills were acquired with the solid-phase microextraction technique associated to gas phase and liquid phase chromatography. In the past fifteen years, molecular imprinting became the main subject of his scientific activity, embracing the sol-gel formats, the radically polimerized polymers and the bioimprinting. He has also extended his imprinting interests to the nanoscale, computational simulations and chemometrics.
