Cláudia Almeida Pires Loureiro graduated in Biotechnology in 2010. She started scientific research during undergraduate training, when she had the opportunity to work at Centro Andaluz de Biologia Molecular y Medicina Regenerativa in Spain, working on a project to understand the consequences of the depletion of leading and lagging strand DNA polymerases in Saccharomyces cerevisae. Since her Master training at the Instituto Nacional de Saúde Doutor Ricardo Jorge (INSA), she has been working on signaling pathways regulating chloride cotransporters and their implications in blood pressure regulation and cystic fibrosis. Her data led to approval of the FCT PIDC/SAU-ORG/119782/2010 project on identification of new signaling pathways involved in the regulation of chloride transport proteins, in which she served as a research fellow after conclusion of her Master degree in Biochemistry at the Faculty of Sciences of University of Lisbon in 2012. Additionally, during this period she collaborated in the host laboratory to explore the role of WNK2 in RAC1 signaling and tumour cell invasion and proliferation (8). In 2014, she obtained a PhD scholarship from FCT under the PhD Programme BioSYS (Biological Systems, Functional & Integrative Genomics), integrated in the BioISI (Biosystems & Integrative Sciences Institute). The PhD project aimed to identify phospho-tyrosine binding proteins by mass spectrometry binding to three different chloride transport proteins (NKCC2, KCC3 and CFTR) and the underlying molecular mechanisms. In 2014 she published her first paper as first author (Loureiro, et al., Sci Signal. 2014) in a high impact factor journal. Based on her PhD work she published 3 more original research papers (Loureiro, et al., Frontiers in Pharmacology 2019; Loureiro, et al., Arch in Biochem and Biophys 2019; Loureiro, et al., Cell Mol. Life Sci. 2020) and co-authored 1 review (Pereira et al., Cell Mol. Life Sci. 2016). After completing her PhD, she had the opportunity to continue as a postdoctoral fellow in the FCT PTDC/BIA-CEL/28408/2017 project to validate new candidate proteins involved in the regulation of chloride transport proteins. Until now she earned an accumulated impact factor of 35,24 and nearly 91 citations (index-h of 3). Moreover, she participated in several national and international scientific meetings, presenting her work as oral or poster communications. She was team member in two research projects with national funding.
