Curriculum Vitae

Montserrat Alonso Garcia holds a bachelor in Geology in 2005 and a PhD in Geology in 2011, both from the University of Salamanca. She spent several years as a postdoctoral researcher in University of South Florida (Florida, US) and Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera (Portugal) and since 2019 she is Professor in the University of Salamanca (currently at the Associate Level-Profesor Titular de Universidad). Her research focus is Micropaleontology, Paleoceanography and Paleoclimatology of the Neogene in the North Atlantic, Iberian margin, Mediterrranean, and Indian oceans. Her main expertise is in Foraminifera but she also uses other geochemical proxies such as O and C isotopes, XRF-scanning analysis and organic compounds analysis. She participated in 15 research projects being PI in 3 of them. She published 38 articles or book chapters, 32 of them indexed in the WoS, and 25 of them in Q1. According to Scopus, MAG article citations are 692, and her H index =15. She participated actively in the PAGES PlioVAR working group and she collaborated in studies of multiple IODP expeditions (including Exp. 359 where she sailed). MAG is associate editor of the journals Boletín Geológico y Minero and Palaeogeography Palaeoclimatology Palaeoecology and she acted as reviewer for multiple journals and also for funding agencies. She also participated in 2 projects of transfer of knowledge with the industry and participates actively in outreach and dissemination activities. MAG teaches Paleontology and Climate Change subjects and supervises students from the undergraduate to the PhD level. She is a member of the academic committee of the Degree in Geology at the University of Salamanca. Her work has been mainly focused on the Plio-Pleistocene climate and oceanographic changes, mainly in the North Atlantic and Indian Oceans althogh she has also performed some work on Miocene sediments and older.
