Yann Ferrand received his PhD from the University of Rennes under the supervision of Dr. G. Simonneaux in 2005. He then moved to UK where he joined the lab of Prof. Anthony Davis (School of chemistry, Bristol). In Bristol he worked on the preparation of artificial lectins for the molecular recognition of mono- and disaccharides in water. In 2007, after his post-doctoral training he received a CNRS researcher position in the Supramolecular and Bioorganic Chemistry lab of Dr. I. Huc, who is world specialist in the area of aromatic foldamers. In 2017 he was appointed group leader in the CBMN unit and his group, Bio-Inspired Supramolecular Engineering, is currently among the most active in the world in this area. He was appointed CNRS researcher director at the CBMN institute in 2019. He directed and co-directed 9 PhD theses funded by CNRS, UB, CIVB and China Scholarship Council., 7 post-doc researchers and 10 research students. He has been involved in the management and preparation of several research projects, both as coordinator (ANR-DFG Foldhyd 2014) and as partner with F. Coutrot (ANR FoldaRotaxanes 2017), V. Gabélica (ANR POLYnESI, 2018) and C. Olivier (ANR NLOchiraMat). He is co-director of the France-Germany LIA FoldSFun (Foldamer Structures and Functions, with Ivan Huc from LMU Munich). He co-organized 4 editions of Symposium on Foldamers (2015, 2016, 2018, 2021). He is the author of 65 publications (Science, Nat Chem., JACS, ACIE, Chem. Sci.).
