Teresa Catarino. Completed a PhD in Biochemistry/Biophysics in 1998 at Universidade Nova de Lisboa Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia after a BSc in Applied Chemistry - Biotechnology also at FCT NOVA. Is assistant professor at FCT NOVA and Researcher at ITQB NOVA where she belongs to MOSTMICRO research unit. Published 36 articles in journals. Supervised 1 PhD thesis and co-supervised another. Participated as PI in 1 research project and as Team Member in another 22 projects. Works in the area of natural sciences with emphasis on Biochemistry/Biophysics. Her scientific activity has been mainly focused in the characterization of electron transfer proteins. Expertise in transient (stopped-flow) and steady state kinetics. Development of thermodynamic and kinetic models to describe the electron transfer properties and cooperativities found in proteins with multiple redox centres. Effect of ionic strength in electron transfer reactions, and binding of diatomic molecules to haem proteins. With extensive experience in teaching at the BSc, MSc and PhD levels, has been responsible for lecturing, course planning, and production of pedagogical materials for courses in Biochemistry, Enzymology, Bioenergetics, Metabolism and Physiology. In her curriculum Ciência Vitae the most frequent terms in the context of scientific output are: Bioenergetics; Electron transfer; Enzyme kinetics; Cytochromes; Redox cooperativities; Stopped-flow; NO and CO signaling; Bacterial energy metabolism; Respiratory membrane complexes.
