Elisabete Silva (E. Silva) is an Auxiliary Researcher (with Tenure) at Universidade de Lisboa, Faculdade de Medicina Veterinária,
Department of Clinics, where she conducts research in the Animal Reproduction field, participates in teaching activities,
and provides diagnostic services to the veterinary community. Her scientific activity is developed at the Centre for Interdisciplinary
Research in Animal Health (CIISA) and her expertise lies in Reproductive Biology, Andrology, and Embryology, focusing on the
physiology and pathophysiology of both male and female reproductive events in several species (bovine, equine, canine). Her
expertise covers the methodologies of genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, semen analysis, and in vitro embryo production.
Given her training in molecular biology and andrology, her present research interests are directed toward understanding mammalian
molecular sperm features that regulate sperm competence and their freezability. E. Silva is also committed to science management
and knowledge translation from academia to society. Since 2022, she has been a member of the executive committee of the AL4Animals
Associated Laboratory, dedicated to studying green animal production, emerging diseases, and comparative and translational
medicine. Since 2019, she has been involved in providing services to the veterinary community as the quality manager of a
diagnostic laboratory with IPAC accreditation (IPAC=Portuguese Accreditation Institute). This accredited facility offers diagnostic
and consulting services to Animal Health associations (ADSs), cooperatives, and individual farmers and breeders, with a current
focus on infectious pathogens impacting the reproduction and development processes of animals. E. Silva is the author of 42
peer-reviewed articles/book chapters, 18 of which as the first or senior author, 25 abstracts published in international refereed
journals (11 as the first or senior author), and 20 other communications presented at scientific congresses, along with 8
Sequences/Genomes deposited in Public Databases. Out of the 42 publications, 39 are the result of her work in the reproduction
field since 2006 at the Reproduction and Development Lab of CIISA. E. Silva has been the PI of 3 projects (2 FCT-funded and
1 funded by the AL4Animals Associated Laboratory); the Co-PI of an ongoing project (FCT-funded), and the PI of 5 internal
CIISA-funded projects, all subject to external evaluation. Moreover, she has been a member of 13 projects with competitive
external funding (9 FCT; 1 international, 2 PDR2020) and 10 competitive CIISA projects with external evaluation. She has also
supervised 8 PhD theses (4 ended), 2 Post-Doc works (ended), and 6 MSc theses (5 ended). Since 2019, she teaches practical
classes in the curricular unit of Reproduction and Obstetrics I and II of the Integrated Master Degree in Veterinary Medicine
(MIMV; FMV-ULisboa), focusing on semen analysis in equine, canine, and ram species. Additionally, she is the regent of the
Curricular Unit Research Seminars of the Doctoral Program in Veterinary Sciences. Between 2021 and 2023, she also lectured
theoretical and practical classes in the Curricular Unit of Embryology and Developmental Biology of the MIMV.
