Diogo Carregosa is a Researcher at NOVA Institute for Medical Systems Biology (NIMSB) | Universidade NOVA de Lisboa, and currently a PhD Student in Biomedicine at NOVA Medical School | Universidade NOVA de Lisboa. Diogo completed his BSc in Biochemistry in 2016 at Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia | Universidade NOVA de Lisboa and his MSc in Biochemistry for Health in 2018 at Instituto de Tecnologia Química e Biológica | Universidade NOVA de Lisboa. Diogo Carregosa research interest is to understand the potential of small molecules, including dietary and microbiota metabolites, to modulate neuroinflammation a key hallmark of Neurodegenerative Diseases like Parkinson's Disease. Diogo has accumulated 6 years of expertise in this area, including the chemical synthesis of phenolics, in vitro evaluation of their anti-inflammatory potential and mechanistic studies, and in vivo animal validation with experience in animal behavior and analysis. From this work Diogo has 1 patent application for the use of phenolics to treat Neurodegenerative Diseases. Furthermore, Diogo has 10 publications in scientific journals, 3 book chapters and participated in several international conferences disseminating his work. Diogo participates/participated in two COST Actions related to neurodegenerative diseases, from which was awarded two grants to participate in scientific missions abroad to University of Antwerp (Belgium) and University of Parma (Italy). Diogo also participated in the mentoring of several BSc and MSc students. Diogo already delivered its PhD thesis and is awaiting its public discussion
