Patrícia Justo Bota received her MSc in Biomedical Engineering from the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of NOVA University of Lisbon. While finishing her MSc she worked as a scientist at Fraunhofer AICOS focusing on the development of human activity recognition algorithms based on the smartphone's built-in sensors. Currently, she is a researcher at the Pattern and Image Analysis (PIA-Lx) group from the Instituto de Telecomunicações (IT), and a PhD Student at Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) of Universidade de Lisboa (ULisboa), where she is also a Teaching Assistant in the "Machine Learning in Bioengineering" course. At IT, she is involved in the study of human emotions, cognition and behaviour in unconstrained scenarios, and developing machine learning and artificial intelligence algorithms for the recognition of emotion through multi-source physiological data. She published 3 papers in Q1-Q2 peer reviewed journals (with 1 more under review, and 1 under submission), 1 conference paper (with 1 more under review), with peer revision and scientific refereeing. In addition, Patrícia currently participates and actively contributes to 2 international and 2 national projects, with part of her work already being showcased at the European Commission Joint Research Centre in the scope of the Resonances III Art-Science Festival. She is also a lead maintainer of the BioSPPy toolbox for biosignal processing in Python and the creator of the EMOVis Electrodermal Activity Analysis Tool. Her main research interests include Affective Computing, Machine Learning, Artificial intelligence, and Signal Processing.

2019/10/14 - 2019/10/19 DataWe is a neurocinematics show where the participants’ psychophysiological reactions influence the narrative, audio and visual media of a film. The performance focused on the struggles of an European immigrant, to which the “neuronauts” reactions are measured using an Electrodermal Activity sensor. This device, especially suitable for collective data acquisition in real time, measures the emotional arousal throughout the screening. Then, from the individual reactions, a collective a affect affective waveform of the neuronauts is computed.
