María Gómez Lázaro graduated in Biochemistry from the University of Valencia (Valencia, Spain) in 2002. Got her MSc at the Universidad de Navarra on Research, development and innovation of Novel Drugs, from the Faculty of Pharmacy in 2003. She got her PhD, in 2007, in Medical Sciences (Pharmacology) from the Faculty of Medicine from the Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha (Albacete, Spain), and another master degree on Neuroscience and behavioural biology, from the Universidad Pablo de Olavide (Seville, Spain). In 2007 she moved to the Centro de Biologia Celular from the University of Aveiro (Aveiro, Portugal) as a postdoc. Later in 2011, she worked as a postdoc researcher on the Instituto de investigación en Discapacidades Neurológicas (IDINE) from the Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha (Albacete, Spain). Finally, in 2012 she joined INEB where she is the Head of the Bioimaging Scientific Platform of i3S - Instituto de Investigação e Inovação em Saúde (Universidade do Porto, Porto, Portugal), where she is expert on laser scanning confocal microscopy, microcomputed tomography (microcT) both ex vivo and in vivo, imaging flow cytometry, and confocal Raman spectroscopy. Published 36 articles in journals. Has 6 section(s) of books. Organized 11 event(s). Supervised 1 PhD thesis(es). Has received 6 awards and/or honors. Participates and/or participated as PhD Student Fellow in 7 project(s), Post-doc Fellow in 4 project(s) and Researcher in 6 project(s). Images contain diverse and valuable quantifiable data, however, many researchers lack the knowledge to extract those data in a practical, fast and repetitive way. ImageJ/FIJI are based on an open source architecture, which enables functionality extensibility using plugins and Macros.
