Daniel Ribeiro graduated in Biology (Faculdade de Ciências) from Universidade de Lisboa in 2007 and completed the Master in Human Molecular Biology (Faculdade de Ciências) from Universidade de Lisboa in 2009. In 2016, Daniel Ribeiro obtained his PhD in Biomedical Sciences (Faculdade de Medicina) from Universidade de Lisboa. In his PhD at Instituto de Medicina Molecular João Lobo Antunes (iMM-JLA), he discovered and characterized oncogenic gain-of-function mutations in the Interleukin-7 receptor gene (IL-7R), present at diagnosis in human T-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (T-ALL). During his post-doctoral studies, still on the field of IL-7 signaling and T-ALL, Daniel Ribeiro elucidated the role of the JAK/STAT5 singling axis demonstrating that this axis is mandatory for IL-7 to exert its full survival and proliferative effects on T-cell leukemias. Recently, Daniel became interested in bioinformatics as biology increasingly relies on big data analysis. In his bioinformatics track, he began studying the biology of spinal cord injury in non-regenerative (mouse) and full-regenerative (zebrafish) animal models, with the aim of uncovering therapeutic targets for intervention in human spinal cord injury (SCI). Currently, he is using single-cell RNA-seq to uncover the role senescent cells play during the injury response in mouse models of SCI.
