Ricardo J. C. Carbas is currently a post-doctoral researcher in the Institute of Science and Innovation in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering (INEGI) - Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP). He obtained his PhD in adhesively bonded functionally graded joints from Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto in 2013. His research activity focuses on mechanical characterisation of stuctural adhesives, experimental testing and numerical simulation of adhesive joints, with special attention to develop techniques to improve the performance of composite joints under different type of loads (quasi-static, impact or fatigue). He developed a technique of functionally graded cure by induction heating. He is editor-in-chief of Engineering Manufacturing Letters (EML) journal (FEUP). He is involved in the organization of conferences on materials and adhesive bonding: Luso-Brazilian Adhesion Conference (CLBA), International Conference on Materials Design and Applications (MDA), Advanced Joining Processes (AJP) and Ibero-American Conference on Composite Materials (IAMaC). He is editorial board member of the 'Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part L: Journal of Materials: Design and Applications', 'Journal of Advanced Joining Processes' and 'Materials'. It has six patents mainly on production methods and testing of structural adhesive bonds. He does consulting work for national (e.g. Bosch, Amtrol) and international (e.g. Honda, Nagase Chemtex, John Deere, Safran, Infineon, Henkel, etc.) companies.
