In 2012, I obtained my MSc in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Coimbra, Portugal where the MSc thesis studies resulted in one publication in an international peer-reviewed journal. Before starting my PhD, I was awarded a fellowship to investigate dosimetry and radiation protection in medical applications of ionising radiation as well as to develop computer simulations using Monte Carlo methods at the Centre for Nuclear Sciences and Technologies (C2TN) research centre, Lisbon. This work led to the best paper award in the session ¿CT and CBCT¿ at the International Conference on Radiation Protection in Medicine, Bulgaria in 2014, and to three peer-reviewed publications. In 2019 I was awarded a PhD degree in Applied Atomic and Molecular Physics from NOVA University, Lisbon, with a thesis on ¿Probing Radiosensitizers in Electron Transfer Experiments¿. During my PhD, I carried out novel experiments on electron transfer to radiosensitizer-related compounds, namely nitroimidazoles. Those studies contributed to the description of the underlying radiosensitization mechanisms driven through charge-transfer interactions. During the PhD, I also spent two years at CSIC, Madrid. There, I was the main researcher responsible for assembling, improving and optimizing a novel experimental setup on ion-molecule collisions, which became completely operational afterwards, and since then has contributed to pioneering research outputs. To the best of my knowledge, this is a unique experimental system within the scientific community. I published 12 papers in international peer-review journals from my PhD studies and presented oral and poster presentations at different international conferences. The years of my PhD gave me experience in managing and optimizing crossed beam experiments, and in mass spectrometry. The obtained experience was extremely important to get, in 2019, a short-term Assistant Researcher contract at the CEFITEC, where I am currently collaborating. My activities consist of performing experiments in a crossed beam electron-molecule setup with a focus on radiosensitizer compounds, which is in the same field as the present proposal. During this time, I supervised one master's student, I mentored the research work of two PhD students, and supervised undergraduate students from different areas, namely biochemistry. I am involved in teaching classical mechanics, thermodynamics and electromagnetism at NOVA University, Lisbon in the Department of Physics since 2019. Currently, I have 34 publications listed in Scopus, with a total of 181 citations and an h-index of 9. I am a co-author of a book chapter (ISBN 978-3-030-28247-9), I have presented 5 oral communications and seminars at national and international conferences, and I have produced more than 25 posters in international conferences. I have also been involved in a close network of international collaboration with world-leading researchers from CSIC (Madrid, Spain), Federal University of Paraná (Curitiba, Brazil), Aarhus University (Aarhus, Denmark) and Paul Sabatier University (Toulouse, France). I have visited different international laboratories, namely, the ASTRID2 synchrotron facility in Aarhus, and participated in three short-term scientific missions through COST Actions. As a project leader, I obtained funding from CALIPSO plus Horizon2020 programme to access the UV beamline at the ASTRID facility in 2020, 2021 and 2023. I have prepared and led such studies which have resulted in two publications until the moment as a corresponding author. In addition, I have been involved in activities to disseminate science, especially to university and high-school students, through different programs organized by FCT-UNL, namely Quantum Academy 2019, Expo FCT and open visits to the laboratory. I was also invited to give a seminar integrated in the Post-Graduation Program in Physics by UFPR in Brazil.
