Cristina Mateus Alfaia completed her graduation in Pharmaceutical Sciences at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Lisbon, in 1993, the Master in Food Quality Control and Toxicology at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Lisbon, in 2002, and the PhD in Veterinary Science at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Lisbon, in 2009. She is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Animal Production and Food Safety. Her background and experience comprise intensive investigation at the Animal Science and Food Technology field. The main focus stands on bioactive lipids from foods of animal origin that reduce adiposity and improve animal and human health. The ultimate goal is to develop novel feeding strategies based on algae use and innovative technological processe to enhance qualty and safety of animal products. She published so far 99 international papers in peer-reviewed scientific journals (Q1), 11 book chapters and over 150 conference proceedings and oral and panel communications. Her presently h-index is 29, with a total number of 2,353 citations (scopus). She published 83.3% papers in top 25% of scientific journals (scopus). Cristina Mateus Alfaia supervised and co-supervised 14 master degree students. She participated as a team member in 24 international/national projects so far and was the PI of 1 small internal project financially supported by the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Animal Health (CIISA).
