Carla Bartosch is a pathologist, specialized in gynecological pathology, at the Portuguese Oncology Institute of Porto (IPOP) and Centro Hospitalar Universitário S. João. She trained at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, under the supervision of Dr. Esther Oliva. She is an active member of the International Society of Gynecological Pathologists (ISGyP) and the European Organisation for Treatment of Trophoblastic Disease (EOTDD). Concurrent to her medical carrier, she has been actively involved in research. She concluded her PhD on Molecular Medicine and Oncology, with a thesis entitled "Endometrial carcinoma: study of pathology and epigenetic features". She completed the two-year Clinical Scholars Research Training Program of Harvard Medical School, and was distinguished with its Award in Recognition for Excellence. She is now a researcher of the Cancer Biology and Epigenetics Group at IPOP Research Center, and head of the GynecOlogy ClINics Study Group (GOING) at IPOP. Her research activity, both basic and translational, focuses on gynecological pathology and is resulting in a considerable scientific production, among which, 56 peer-reviewed articles, and several oral and poster communications at national and international meetings. She also actively participated in the National Portuguese Gynecological Cancer Consensus. She has been involved as supervisor of many graduated and undergraduate students, and also works as an adjunct professor of Pathology at Biomedical Sciences Institute Abel Salazar, University of Porto (ICBAS). She is currently the president of the Portuguese Society of Anatomic Pathology.
