Maria do Carmo Pereira completed the PhD in Chemical Engineering in 1998 at the Universidade do Porto, Faculdade de Engenharia, and a graduation (licenciatura) in Chemical Engineering in 1993 at Universidade do Porto, Faculdade de Engenharia, Portugal. She is Associate Professor at Universidade do Porto, Faculdade de Engenharia and the Group Leader of Supramolecular Assemblies at the Laboratory for Process Engineering, Environment, Biotechnology and Energy (LEPABE). The main research areas are: i) Nanotechnology and interfacial phenomena; supramolecular interactions including novel nano-engineered biomaterials for therapeutic applications; drug delivery systems; electrochemical sensors for neurological biomarkers and environment (air quality and atmospheric pollution with emphasis on public and environmental health). During her research career she has authored and co-authored more than 210 articles in peer-reviewed international journals (H-index of 47) and more than 20 book chapters and one patent. She has been involved in 6 European projects (PI in one) and 20 national (5 of which as a PI). She supervised 20 PhD theses), and more than 55 MSc dissertation(s). She received several awards such as two Prize Mantero Belard (2021 and 2017 editions), Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa, Portugal; Maratona da Saúde 2020 and 13 Scientific Recognition Awards (FEUP).
