ICorreia, is a Junior Researcher (2021.00329.CEECIND - https://doi.org/10.54499/2021.00329.CEECIND/CP1659/CT0009) working at iBiMED-UA since 2019. Her interest in science arose during a 4-month stay in UCM-Spain due to an Erasmus scholarship, when she became aware of the power of genetics to study infectious diseases. Since then, she acquired a wide range of skills in Molecular Microbiology, Immunology, Host-Pathogen Interactions, Animal procedures, Biochemistry, Structural biology, Proteomics and Bioinformatics to pursue a career in science focused on the regulatory mechanisms that lead to fungal adaptation, host colonization and infection. After graduating in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the University of Porto in 2007, ICorreia returned to Spain to pursue a doctoral degree. She joined the research group Signal Transduction and Immune Response in Human Pathogenic Fungi, led by Prof. Jesús Pla, who became her supervisor. In 2010, she received a FPU Ph.D. grant from the Spanish government and secured two FPU short-term fellowships. In 2012, she visited Dr. Fu-Tong Liu´s lab at the Medical School in UCDavis-USA and in 2013, she spent three months at the Hans-Knoell Institute in Germany, under the guidance of Prof. Bernhard Hube to expand her skills in immunology and host-pathogen interactions. ICorreia concluded her PhD, written and defended in English, in December 2014 with the highest qualification and European honours. As a postdoctoral fellow in Spain, she continued her research to publish the findings of her PhD studies. She came back to Portugal in 2016 and, after a maternity leave, ICorreia started a post-doc at IBMC/i3S in the Biomolecular Structure and Function group, led by Dr. Sandra Macedo-Ribeiro. In 2019 she joined iBiMED-UA through an FCT-funded project on protein biosynthesis errors, supervised by Prof. Manuel Santos, where she developed a mass spectrometry pipeline to quantify mistranslation at the proteome scale. In 2020, ICorreia had her second maternity leave and in 2021 she was awarded with the Individual Call to Scientific Employment Stimulus (CEEC) which contract as Junior researcher started in June 2022. Inês was granted with a best poster presentation award and a travel and trainee grant. Throughout her scientific path she published 8 original articles (3 of them as first author, one as both first-author and co-corresponding, and another with co-first authorship), 7 reviews (2 of them as first author), one book chapter (first author) and participated in several events disseminating her work in the form of oral or poster presentations. She participated or participates in 10 projects (5 as PhD student and 5 as post-doc fellow) and co-supervised one undergraduate and a Master Student. She is an Ad-Hoc reviewer for several journals, has served on the jury for two PhD degrees, and was a member of the scientific committee for one conference. Inês is currently interested in the mechanisms of codon mistranslation in C. albicans and in the implications that an ambiguous proteome has on phenotypic behaviour, fungal adaptation, and immune evasion.
