Maria Sousa Rebelo completed her PhD in Biomedical Sciences in 2017/04 at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon. She did her Master in Applied Microbiology in 2010/10 at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon and has a Degree in Microbiology in 2009/06 by the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon. She did her first post-doc QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute, Australia, where she joined Dr McCarthy group. In May 2020, she started her second post-doc at iMM, Portugal, at Prof Bernardes group. She published 24 articles in peer-reviewed journals and has been invited to present her work in 5 of specialized conferences. She organized 4 events, received 8 awards and / or honors. In 2018, she was awarded with a Seed Grant from the Australian Centre of Research Excellence in Malaria Elimination. More recently, in 2023, she was granted with the prestigious "la Caixa" Junior Leader Fellowship and an FCT RESTART grant. She operates in the area of Medical and Health Sciences with an emphasis on Infectious Diseases.
