Paula Marques (born 1969) received a first degree in Chemistry (1993), an MSc in Chemistry and Physics Teaching (1997), and a PhD in Materials Science Engineering with a specialization in Biomaterials (2003) from the University of Aveiro (UA) in Portugal. Paula is a Principal Researcher (tenured position) in the UA's Department of Mechanical Engineering. She is currently the Vice-Director for Society and Social Responsibility in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, as well as the Vice-Director for Internationalization of the research unit TEMA (Centre of Mechanical Technology and Automation). Her current research focuses on the engineering and development of multifunctional nanostructured materials, particularly graphene derivatives, for two main applications: tissue engineering and environmental remediation.
