Péter Szücs has an MD (1998) and acquired his PhD (2003) in neurobiology/theoretical medicine at the University of Debrecen. At present he is an associate professor and head of the Department of Anatomy, Histology and Embryology at the University of Debrecen, Hungary. His research group focuses on the anatomical and functional connectivity and development of the superficial dorsal horn of the spinal cord. In collaboration with Boris Safronov’s group in Porto he described the detailed axon morphology and connectivity of lamina I projection- and interneurons. More recently, he uses optogenetics to reveal descending and local modulation of the spinal dorsal horn circuitry and the role of local axon collaterals of projection neurons. . He co-authored 40 peer-reviewed publications and participated (3 times as PI) in research grants from the European Union, FCT and the National Research, Development and Innovation Office of Hungary.
