Catarina has a degree (Licenciatura - 2003) in Biochemistry by the Faculty of Sciences of Porto University, Portugal, and a PhD in Natural Sciences by the University of Zurich (Doktorin der Naturwissenschaften (Dr. sc. nat.) - PhD Program in Integrative Molecular Medicine – 2010). After a training period at the University of Szeged in Hungary on the transcriptional regulation of the sMMO operon in Methylococcus capsulatus in 2003, she was hired as a Research Assistant by the Institute of Histology and Embryology, Faculty of Medicine of Porto, Portugal, where she worked on the role of GABA metabotropic receptors in the thalamic processing of chronic pain between November 2003 and February 2006. Between 2006 and 2010 she developed her PhD studies on the control of food intake by pancreatic hormones and characterized the neuronal signalling pathways involved in the anorectic effect of amylin. The studies were performed at the Institute of Veterinary Physiology, Zurich, Switzerland, and the title of Dr. sc. nat. (PhD) by the Faculty of Sciences of Zurich University was achieved in October 2010. Between 2011 and 2016 she worked as a Researcher Assistant - Post Doc at IBMC / i3S in Porto, Portugal, with the support of an intra-european Marie Curie fellowship, which was followed by a FCT-BPD, and her studies focused on the role of amylin, a peptide expressed by the pancreas but also by sensory neurons of the dorsal root ganglia, in nociception. Particularly, the identification of amylin effects in different pain modalities, namely in chronic pain. In 2017 she concluded the CEAGP - Curso de Estudos Avançados em Gestão Pública (Advanced Studies in Public Management) by INA and was admitted to the Portuguese Public Administration. Since 2017 she has been working as Scientific Officer being involved in Science and Technology Management activities such as planning, management and monitoring of processes related to FCT calls for granting PhD studentships. Main activities involve preparing supporting documentation in Portuguese and English, monitoring the submission processes, managing the applications’ evaluation process throughout its entire cycle, constitution of evaluation panels, participation in evaluation meetings, communication with stakeholders (candidates, supervisors, higher education institutions, members of evaluation panels), coordination of the evaluation teamwork. Preparation of internal proposals; data and document management; collaboration with the IT area in the development of new platforms; data analysis and processing. She published 15 articles in journals. Supervised 2 MSc dissertations and 5 Bachelor students. Has received 9 awards and/or honors. Worked in the area(s) of Medical and Health Sciences with emphasis on Basic Medicine with emphasis on Neurosciences, Medical and Health Sciences with emphasis on Clinical Medicine with emphasis on Oncology and Social Sciences with emphasis on Political Sciences with emphasis on Public Administration. In their professional activities interacted with 65 collaborator(s) co-authorship of scientific papers. In her curriculum Ciência Vitae the most frequent terms in the context of scientific, technological output are: Ciências da Saúde, Outras ciências médicas; Health sciences, Other medical sciences; Ciências médicas e da saúde::Outras ciências médicas; Medical and Health sciences::Other medical sciences; pain; recetor da calcitonina; spinal cord; MTC; tiróide; gestão de processos; avaliação de candidaturas.

  1. Nociceptive behaviour upon modulation of mu-opioid receptors in the ventrobasal complex of the thalamus of rats. The role of mu-opioid receptors (MORs) in the inflammatory pain processing mechanisms within the ventrobasal complex of the thalamus (VB) is not well understood. This study investigated the effect of modulating MOR activity upon nociception, by stereotaxically injecting specific ligands in the VB. Nociceptive behaviour was evaluated in two established animal models of inflammatory pain, by using t. 2010. Faculdade de Medicina. http://hdl.handle.net/10216/25674.
