María Lourdes Renart Pérez is a researcher at the recently created Instituto de Innovación, Desarrollo e Innovación en Biotecnología Sanitaria de Elche (IDiBE), part of the Universidad Miguel Hernández (UMH, Elche, Spain). She completed her doctorate in 2010 at the Insituto de Biología Molecular y Celular from the same university. S he studied Biochemistry at the Universidad de Buenos Aires (Argentina) and worked as a research trainee on the free radical and antioxidants field with the team of Prof. César Fraga. In addition to her Ph.D. degree, she is also has a degree (Licenciatura) In Biochemistry (2007) and Pharmacy (2013) from the UMH. In 2003, she was awarded with an "FPI" predoctoral fellowship from Ministerio de Educación y Ciencia of Spain and started officially her Ph.D. at the laboratory of Prof. José Manuel González Ros. The aim of her thesis was the study of the structure-function link in ion channels, using the prokaryotic potassium channel KcsA as a model. The dissertation got a "Sobresaliente cum laude" grade. This work, among all the investigation lines in the laboratory, were presented several times in national and international conferences and published in prestigious international scientific journals. In 2014, she started a post-doctoral training among the advanced fluorescence field at the laboratory of Prof. Manuel Prieto in Lisbon (IST, Universidade de Lisboa). That work is now part of a thesis project, which she is co-directing with Profs. Manuel Prieto and Ana Coutinho. So far, her laboratory skills include: heterelogous expression of membrane proteins in E.coli systems, membrane proteins purification by several types of chromatography techniques, SDS-PAGE, BN-PAGE and agarose electrophoresis, site-directed mutagenesis by PCR, plasmidic DNA amplification and purification, notions of electrophysiological recordings (patch-clamp), circular dichroism and steady-state fluorescence spectroscopy, membrane proteins folding analysis by chemical and physical denaturation, protein reconstitution into liposomes and labelling with fluorescent dyes, fluorescence microscopy, time-resolved fluorescence and anisotropy spectroscopy, among others. To date her general quality indicators are: Total publications: 26; H-index: 9; sum of times cited: 497; citing articles: 418. She works in the area(s) of Natural sciences, Biological Sciences with emphasis on Biophysics.
