Bernardo Ramos Batista Monteiro. Completed the PhD in Chemistry in 2009 by the University of Aveiro and graduated in Chemistry in 2000 by the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon. He is a Hired Researcher at the Association of the Instituto Superior Técnico for Research and Development. He published 35 articles in specialized journals (had 3 magazine covers), 2 book chapters, has 2 registered patents and 2 articles in Proceedings of international conferences. Presented 14 oral communications and 56 panel communications. He was part of the Organizing Committee of 4 international scientific meetings and 2 institutional workshops. He participated as a researcher in 7 financed projects. In 2019, he began to teach the Chemistry Course in the Integrated Master in Electrical and Computer Engineering and from 2021 in the degree in Mechanical Engineering at Instituto Superior Técnico. He supervised 2 Summer Internships for undergraduate students and 2 Ciência Viva internships for high school students. From 2003 to 2005, he taught Chemistry-Physics, Chemistry and Physics (day and night regimes) from the 10th to the 12th year of schooling. Received 4 prizes. In his professional activities, he interacted with 121 collaborators in co-authoring scientific works. He has developed studies from coordination chemistry (lanthanides, transition metals) to the design of new materials (Layered Materials, MOFs, Mixed Matrix Membranes) with applications as catalysts, sensors, remediation and gas separation. Studies with Layered Lanthanide Hydroxide materials (LLHs) lead to the discover for the first time of a behavior of SMM in a Ln-based layered material for the LDyH compound. Using semi-empirical calculations performed by using the REC model successfully allowed were able to put separately into evidence single ion, 2D and 3D Dy-Dy interaction effects and access the Ln electronic configurations and the respective contributions to the slow relaxation behavior of the LLHs type of materials. Bernardo Monteiro has also specialized in the development and application of new ILs and salts in several areas as well as their magnetic and thermochemical characterization. Namely, Ln-based ILs/salts with unusual properties (e.g. thermochromism, ordered self-assembling in the liquid state, solid-state polymorphism, high absolute emission quantum yields) and their application in sensing (temperature, methanol in methanol/ethanol mixtures) and organic ILs for the selective extraction of Ln from secondary sources.
