Catarina Ramos is a Researcher at the Chemistry Department, of University of Aveiro (UA), Portugal. She obtained her PhD degree in 2012 from UA and, in 2013, she obtained a Post-doc grant with the project "New multicharged porphyrins and phthalocyanines as potential telomerase inhibitors". Her research interests are focused on the evaluation of the ability of new molecules to stabilize duplex and quadruplex DNA structures and thus to inhibit telomerase and oncogene functions and to control cancer cell proliferation. Her research activities gave rise to the publication of 30 research articles in journals indexed on Scopus, fourteen of them as first author, two as last author and eleven of them also as corresponding author. Two new research manuscripts have been submitted. She has participated, with oral and poster presentations, in several national and international conferences. She is co-editor of two special issues of the journal Molecules entitled "Photodynamic Therapy in Cancer Treatment" and "Photodynamic Therapy in Cancer Treatment 2021", another in Biomolecules entitled "From G-Quadruplex Stabilization to Anticancer Therapy" and one in IJMS "Exploring Organic Compounds in Photodynamic Therapy: Synthesis, Mechanism of Action and Biological Potential". She is member of the referee board of several indexed journals. She is lecturing practical classes of Organic and Bioorganic Chemistry at the Chemistry Department of UA since 2019 and is regularly member of evaluation panels of final graduation projects and research fellowships. She was supervisor of three MSc students (one ongoing), mentor of a PhD student and was involved in the supervision of nineteen undergraduate students and one young researcher. She also participated in the PhD work of an international student and more recently, she also participated in the MSc work of an ERASMUS student and is presently orientator of a G4 related project of one undergraduate volunteer student. She was responsible for the implementation, in her research group, of adequate and important biochemical and biophysical techniques to evaluate the interaction of ligands with DNA structures. These methods were essential for the progress of her research line as it is patent by the research articles published as first and corresponding author. She has a multidisciplinary national and international network with outstanding researchers, including synthesis, material science, PDT and cancer research as well as molecular modelling. Regarding University of Aveiro (UA), she had been working with Dr. Graça Neves, Dr Augusto Tomé, Dr Amparo Faustino, Dr Nuno Moura, Dr Vera Silva and also with Dr Tito Trindade from DQ/UA. More recently a network with Dr Helena Oliveira from CESAM/UA was established allowing the access to in vitro and cell cycle dynamics assays. She has a strong relationship with the Dr Rosa Fernandes from Faculty of Medicine, University of Coimbra, where during a research internship had the opportunity to acquired experience and expertise in biochemical techniques highly used in her field of interest. A network with Dr Carla Cruz from the Health Sciences Research Centre-University of Covilhã (UBI), an outstanding national research group in her field of interest, was in progress. Recently an international network with Doctor Wu Chun, from the College of Science & Mathematics, Rowan University, New Jersey, an expert in Molecular modelling, docking of biomolecules (proteins, Nucleic Acids and ligands) and all-atom molecular dynamics simulations of biomolecular systems was established. She was team member of the funded project PORP2SENS (EXPL/QUI-QOR/0586/2021) and participate in the COST action EURESTOP "European Network for diagnosis and treatment of antibiotic-resistant bacterial infections".
