Dr Ana Coroadinha is the director of the Cell Line Development and Molecular Virology (CLD&MV) lab since 2009 (at iBET and ITQB-NOVA institutes) where the principal area of scientific research activity is applied virology with the aim to provide therapeutic or prophylactic solutions for healthcare through the use of recombinant virus. Her research links virology and technology focused on the areas of gene therapy and vaccines. The work links molecular & synthetic biology, virology and cell biology (eukaryotic cells). We are interest in developing novel virus based biopharmaceuticals as well as tools for their research and manufacture. The group develops novel molecular switches, performs genetic enhancement of cells and virus, in order to improve either the product therapeutic efficacy (specificity, tropism, transduction efficiency, immune response) or the cell robustness (improved growth, survivability, metabolism, productivity, etc.). Currently the PI coordinates in the CLD&MV group 2 PhD Senior researchers, 1 Technician, 3 PhD students, 1 Junior researchers and 2 Master students. Dr Ana Sofia de Sousa Valente Coroadinha concluded her PhD in Chemical Engineering - Biotecnology - in 2005/10/06 (Universidade Nova de Lisboa Instituto de Tecnologia Química e Biológica) performed in a tripartite fellowship between Généthon (France), Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI) (germany) and iBET (Portugal). She holds a degree in Biochemistry (1999, Universidade de Lisboa Faculdade de Ciências). The PI has long track record, over 25 years, on the development of virus based biopharmaceuticals for vaccine and gene therapy applications. She published over 65 peer reviewed papers (Q1); 10 book chapters and received 4 awards. She was principal researcher of more than 20 projects (academic and industrial) and participated as member in several other national (e.g. FCT funded) and international (e.g. European Comission) funded projects. Additionally, the PI teaches at several master and PhD programs, as well, as in well regconized international workshops.
