My academic career began in 2009 in the Physics Department at University of Aveiro, where I graduated as a master’s in engineering physics. During these years, I took part as a research fellow in the NG-PON2 innovation project at Instituto de Telecomunicações (IT) with the partnership of PT Inovação (today known as Altice Labs). In this project, I simulated and characterised photonic integrated circuits (PICs) with multi-length interfaces to be applied in optical network terminals. My work in this project resulted in my master's thesis and in a prototype for PT Inovação. In 2014, I started my PhD in Telecommunications, where I simulated, produced and characterised low-cost PICs for sensors and optical communications. This work was carried out at IT and at CICECO-Institute of Materials. This work allowed me to gain experience and knowledge in various scientific areas, namely in programming for modelling and simulating PICs; synthesis, processing and structural and optical characterisation of organic-inorganic hybrids; waveguide engraving through direct writing by UV radiation; and characterisation of PICs through the assembly of experimental set-ups. The work carried out was awarded by the Gulbenkian Foundation in the Research Stimulus Programme (12500€). After my PhD, I was a researcher at CICECO. I characterised efficient nanoplatforms for temperature measurement in hyperthermia and bioimaging applications. I developed an experimental method and associated physical model to obtain the temperature dependence of the thermal conductivity of lipid bilayers and interpret the heat transfer through them. From 2018 to 2020, I was an assistant researcher in the SusPhotoSolutions project. During this project, I developed a prototype of a solar concentrator with an integrated temperature sensor that works autonomously using the energy generated by the solar concentrator. After the SusPhotoSolutions project, I became a researcher in IT - Quantum Communications group. I was responsible for the knowledge transfer for Capgemini Engineering to set up their quantum communications laboratory, managing the projects deliverables, managing the experimental assembly of the quantum key distribution system, and for design and implementation of the quantum key distribution protocol for secure multiparty computing. In 2021 I accepted a research position at Simoldes Plásticos. I co-founded the interior lighting group to expand the Simoldes portfolio and start developing interior lighting for the automotive industry. In this group I was responsible for the hardware and firmware for automotive ambient lighting according to customer requirements. I also took part as a researcher in the innovation projects, where I developed and validated hardware for intelligent, tactile surfaces produced using In-Mould Decoration and In-Mold Electronics technologies. Together with Stellantis, I also developed electronic components for polymer solar modules installed on the roof of the Citroen Ami. In 2023, I started as R&D manager at Tekon Electronics, where I was project manager and leader of the R&D team. Here, I had the opportunity to apply my knowledge of electronics and telecommunications in a dynamic, market-oriented environment for innovative wireless sensor technologies in IoT systems. I managed and completed 7 development projects for new products/services. I also obtained approval for a project funded by Portugal 2030, that I managed. Throughout my professional career, I have developed skills that qualify me for complex challenges in the fields of photonics, optoelectronics and telecommunications. In addition, my work has enabled me to develop project management skills in both academic and business environments. My experience in the industrial sector allows me to have a broad view of the industry's needs and working methodology, and I want to cultivate and promote the transfer of knowledge and technology to this sector.
