Dr. Scott G. Mitchell is a Tenured Senior Scientist of the CSIC since 2018. He has authored >50 peer-reviewed publications (>1600 citations; h-index 23; ca. 154 citations/year; 30% as corresponding author* & 21% as first author). His scientific research interests lie firmly between fundamental synthetic chemistry and applied materials research and has obtained 572k€ as Principle Investigator (PI) over the last 5 years. Dr Mitchell has established himself as one of the young leaders of the Spanish polyoxometalate community; although his research interests span molecular metal-oxide chemistry, nanoparticle synthesis & functionalization, microbiology and applied materials chemistry. As a young independent scientist his principle research area concerns synthesising new types of molecular and nano-materials as antimicrobial agents, which subsequently can be applied to areas as diverse as medicine, home appliances or cultural heritage objects. He has been Principle Investigator (PI) of 5 research projects: 1) MCSA-IF-H2020-2019 "PePiPOM" 178k€; 2) "Queremos ConCienciaArte" Programa CuentaLaCiencia de la Fundación General CSIC 2019 3k€; 3) ComFuturo Project, 135k€, 2015-18 (Spanish project), 4) B/S/H Electrodomésticos, 81k€, 2015-16 (industrial project) & 5) FP7-Marie Curie-IEF, 178k€, 2013-15 (E.U. project). He also has significant industrial technology transfer experience via his BP Chemicals-sponsored Ph.D.. Furthermore, he has participated in E.U., U.K. & Spanish Projects (e.g. ERC-StG ‘NANOPUZZLE’, ‘M-MOS’ EPSRC Case Grant, 2 x Spanish National projects, etc.). He has substantial experience supervising early career researchers: 4 Ph.D. researchers + 10 Masters students. He has given > 10 invited scientific talks at national & international institutions and conferences (e.g. Trinity College Dublin, Ulm University, CNRS Toulouse, Universitat Rovira i Virgili, IMDEA Nanociencia, Nihon University, ICCC 2018, etc.) and receives many invitations to give scientific Outreach talks (e.g. Pint of Science, ERA Career Days, De Copas con la Ciencia, Jornadas BioNorte, and so forth.) In 2015 he was selected by the E.U. Commission to attend the 65th Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting (Germany) and over two consecutive years (2016 & 2017) he was one of three finalists for two separate “Young researcher” prizes in Aragón: i) Premios Aragón Investiga del Gobierno de Aragón & ii) Premios Tercer Milenio. Chronologically, he obtained his BP Chemicals-sponsored doctoral degree in 2010 at The University of Glasgow (U.K.) (2006-2010) under the supervision of Prof. Lee Cronin. He was then a postdoctoral researcher (2010-2011) & Honorary Research Fellow (2011-2013) at The University of Glasgow (U.K.). He then obtained a Juan de la Cierva fellowship (2011-2013) and later a Marie Curie IEF (2013-2015) under the supervision of Prof. Jesús Martínez de la Fuente at the University of Zaragoza (Spain). He was a ComFuturo Fellow (2015-2018) during the three years prior to obtaining a position of Tenured Senior Scientist.
