Carolina Tafalla is a permanent researcher of the National Institute of Animal Health (INIA) from Spain. She obtained her PhD degree in 2000 by the University of Santiago de Compostela with a thesis entitled "Interaction of the VHSV virus with the inespecific immune sistem of the turbot (Scophthalmus maximus)". After that, she was working in several institutions as postdoc researcher such as Investigation Marine Institute in Vigo (Spain) and Centre de Recherche Jouy-en-Josas (INRA, France). Her research line is focused in mechanisms of regulation of the immune system in fish; characterization of subpopulations of Lymphocites B in fishes; developmento of molecular markers to identification of leucocyte subpopulations; cytokine functionality in fishes; vaccine design; optimization of vaccines and search for new adjuvants for their use in aquaculture. During her career was awarded with two ERC grants, one ERC Starting Grant within the project "Teleost B lymphocytes, the equivalent of mammalian B1 lymphocytes?" and another ERC Consolidator Grant within the project "Teleost mucosal B1-like lymphocytes at the crossroad of tolerance and immunity". She was also in charge of several national and European projects, as well as, in contract with companies. Carolina Tafalla was published more than 100 scientific articles in SCI journals as well as several book chapters. She was supervisor of 6 PhD students and she created 4 patents. Also, she participated as scientific expert in several evaluation process of national projects in Spain and she was invited in several scientific meetings as plenary speaker. Finally, she is editor of several scientific journals such as: Fish and Shellfish Imunology, Development and Comparative Immunology and Frontiers in Immunology.
