Eloísa Macedo is a researcher at TEMA-Centre for Mechanical Technology and Automation, University of Aveiro (UA) and the Intelligent Systems Associate Laboratory (LASI). She has a MSc degree in Mathematics and Applications with specialization in Technological and Business Mathematics (2010), and a PhD on Mathematics (2016), both from UA. Her research work focuses on the areas of operational research, optimization and data mining. While researcher at the Dep. of Mathematics of UA (R&D CIDMA), she developed new algorithms for testing regularity in Semidefinite Optimization and new algorithms for dimensionality reduction and data analysis. Her research interests lie on designing and implementing multi-objective optimization heuristics and iterative algorithms; and evaluating traffic-related impacts (also in a connected and automated environment) using integrated assessment models with special focus on environmental, noise, safety and comfort components. E. Macedo taught different courses in the Mathematics field in the Dep. of Mathematics at the UA. In the last few years, as a researcher at the Mechanical Engineering Dep. at UA (R&D TEMA - since 2017), she was responsible for the scientific supervision of 3 (FCT granted) PhD, 10 MSc, 3 BSc students, and research fellows, and participating in R&D or interregional cooperation projects funded from different sources (e.g., FCT, Interreg Europe), either as a collaborator (@CRUiSE, MobiWise), or researcher (DICA-VE, InFLOWence, CISMOB, PriMaaS, EMBRACER, SPOTLOG). Yet in an early stage of career, E. Macedo established international collaborations (supported by the interdisciplinary character evident of the co-authors list on her works) and improved her skills as an independent researcher (h-index is 9). She has authored/co-authored 3 books, 5 bulletin reports (e.g, IFORS, EUROPT), 5 book chapters and more than 40 peer-reviewed research contributions to sustainable mobility and data-driven analysis fields, presenting a good balance between journals and conference papers, mostly indexed in SCOPUS and Web Of Science (Q1, Q2 journals). Research findings have contributed to increase the understanding of road traffic-related impacts based on operational behaviour, but also through the development of computational models data analysis. She is author of technical reports, e.g., in collaboration with Instituto do Ambiente e Desenvolvimento, focused on transport-related impact studies and policy recommendations. Her scientific work has been presented in international conferences and scientific meetings such as, EURO-Association of European Operational Research Societies, European Working Group on Transportation (EWGT), European Working Group in Continuous Optimization (EUROPT), Transportation Research Arena, Transportation Research Board. At the same time, she has been contributing to the advancement of knowledge by acting as a reviewer in scientific journals and international conferences, and has been involved in knowledge extension and dissemination activities for different audiences, through organisation of International Conferences, Special Sessions, Workshops and Webinars. She is member of the scientific association EURO under the EUROPT, and APDIO - Portuguese Association for the Development of Operational Research. Recently, she was invited speaker in a scientific seminar under the (2023) ASIASAFE Project - Road Safety Summer School, promoted by FEUP, and to participate as an industry expert at the (2023) Start for Future Programme, promoted by EIT Manufacturing and EIT Urban Mobility. She was also recently recognised as UA representative for the PO5 line Mobility as a service of the CRUSOE Network Working Group on Mobility and Intelligent Transport. Besides such activities, E. Macedo is an active member of the EURO WISDOM Forum, under the Public Relations Subcommittee, contributing to the scientific networking of young women in Operations Research.
