Laura Ribeiro is a senior research at IPMA, at the Aquaculture Research Staion facility (EPPO - Estação Piloto de Piscicultura de Olhão). She has a degree on Aquatic Sciences (1989) by the Institute of Biomedical Sciences Abel Salazar from the University of Oporto, a Master of Science in Environmental Studies and Coastal Management (1994) - Aquaculture and PhD in Aquaculture ¿ Nutrition (2003), both by the University of Algarve. She has vast experience in marine fish larval development, namely organogenesis, digestive physiology, eggs and larvae quality, but also on fish nutrition, on fish welfare and physiological responses towards environmental changes and sustainable production systems. . She has experience as PI or participant in more than 55 projects R&D projects, both at national and international level. Her research has been published in peer-reviewed journals (62), extended abstracts (64), specialized magazines (5) book chapter (3), and scientific congresses (193). She has also experience on knowledge transfer to aquaculture sector and society trough the organization of workshops, events and producing of factsheets on the aquaculture activities developed at EPPO. She has also lectured master classes on Feeding and Nutrition, Live feeds and supervised more than 29 students (PhD - 3, MSc -19 and undergraduate -6). Along her career she collaborated as reviewer for several scientific journals, reviewing 30 manuscripts in the last 5 years. She had obtained Research-Coordination certification for animal experimentation according to Portuguese law on Animal welfare, equivalent to C category of FELASA.
