Bruna Silva graduated in Biological Engineering at the University of Minho in 2006, with the final classification of 18 values/20. In 2012, she defended the PhD thesis in Chemical and Biological Engineering (CEB) at the same university. Her PhD thesis work was on the field of bioremediation of contaminated wastewater with heavy metals and preparation of new environmental catalysts by reutilization of the metallic residues in solution. The work developed during her PhD was published in 5 peer-reviewed papers in high-impact journals with over 140 citations. As a postdoctoral fellow, she developed research in the Associate Laboratory LSRE/LCM at the University of Porto (2012-2013) in the scope of the FP7 EU Project Hy2Seps2 - "Hybrid Membrane - Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) Hydrogen". Since July 2013, she joined the CEB as a post-doctoral researcher and an integrated member of the center. Her current research interests are focused on the development of sustainable systems for the removal of pharmaceuticals, adsorption processes, heterogeneous and green catalysis, and recovery of REE. In 2015, she was awarded a Post-Doc fellowship from FCT, being her research focused on the field of the development of sustainable technological systems for the treatment of urban and industrial effluents contaminated with pharmaceuticals. Since January 2019 she holds a junior research position, financed by FCT, at the CEB. Since 2013, she is the associate director of Chemical Engineering Laboratory, located in CEB, being responsible for the supervision of the activities of several PhD students and post-doc researchers, as well as for the management of the laboratory. Cumulatively to her research activities, B. Silva is co-responsible for teaching two curricular units from the courses of Biological Engineering and Biomedical Engineering (Integrated Master´s). On January 2019, Bruna Silva was granted with a financial support for a short research stays abroad under the scopus of the IACOBUS 2019, a program that promotes the mobility in the north of the Iberian Peninsula (Portugal and Spain). Since the beginning of 2023, Bruna Silva has been collaborating with N9ve by providing research and development services under the N9VE.REE project, co-funded by Centro2020, Portugal2020, and the European Regional Development Fund. The work carried out has enabled the development of an experimental protocol for the recovery of Nd from permanent magnets through leaching and selective precipitation processes. The work developed represented a very significant starting point for the design of an industrial set-up industrial implementation in collaboration with N9ve company (starting on the beginning of 2024). Bruna Silva has been a team member of several projects and also participates in the submission of national and international project proposals. She often acts as referee of scientific publications, as evaluator of project proposals and participates in Master and Doctoral Committees. Bruna Silva often collaborates in the regular activities of CEB and University of Minho for the diffusion of science to the society. From 2013 to date, she had the opportunity to supervise several PhD students and post-doc researchers (3 master thesis and 1 PhD thesis completed). To the date, Bruna Silva published 33 papers in international scientific periodicals with with peer reviewing, 1 book and 3 book chapters. In international scientific meetings, she presented 12 oral communications and 21 posters.
