Luis Reis, graduated in Mechanical Engineering at the Faculty of Science and Technology, New University of Lisbon, 1994, and obtained a Master's and Doctor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) - University of Lisbon (UL ), in 1996 and 2004, respectively. He is an Associate Professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department of IST - UL since 2009 and is an integrated member of the research centre IDMEC (Institute of Mechanical Engineering). Member of the Scientific Commission of the Integrated master’s in Mechanical Engineering (MEMec) of IST-UL. Integrates the Scientific Area of Mechanical Design and Materials in Engineering and participates in research activities related to the design and development of products, the analysis of failures in mechanical systems, the mechanical behaviour of materials and the additive manufacture of parts and components. To date, he has supervised 8 Doctoral Dissertations in Mechanical Engineering and in Leaders for Technological Industries, 115 Master's Dissertations in Mechanical Engineering and Aerospace Engineering. He is the author of more than 150 scientific articles published in scientific journals and in national and international conference proceedings, 6 book chapters, having been a guest speaker at seminars and short courses held in Portugal and abroad, and he frequently reviews scientific articles for international magazines and for national and international conferences. He has been member of Organizing Commissions and Scientific Commissions of several national and international conferences and edited several publications - Special Issues - of National and International conferences. He is also a member of the editorial board of 4 international scientific journals. He is member of the Technical Commission for National Standardization CT 115 / SC9 - Structural Eurocodes since 2010. As an expert-evaluator, he has prepared several technical-scientific opinions of candidate projects for the Incentive System for R&D Centres and R&D projects in Co-promotion of Innovation Agency. He has participated in several national and international research projects. He is a member of the Order of Engineers and vice-president of Portuguese Society of Fracture and Structural Integrity.
