Sonia Isabel Silva Pinto graduated in Chemical Engineering (Pre-Bologna) in July 2006, at Engineering Faculty of University of Porto (FEUP). She received Graduation Awards: - Award "Eng. António de Almeida" for the graduate student in Chemical Engineering (FEUP) with the highest classification (17 out of 20) finished in 2005/2006; -Award "Eng. Cristiano P. Spratley" for the graduate student in Chemical Engineering or Electrical and Computers Engineering (FEUP) with the highest classification finished in 2005/2006. Sónia Pinto started the Ph.D. in October 2006 at FEUP, Department of Chemical Engineering and Department of Mechanical Engineering, Transport Phenomena Research Center. The Ph.D. Grant was funded by "Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia" (SFRH / BD / 27821 / 2006) - 1st place in Portugal within the Chemical Engineering domain. The thesis has a strong domain on Computational Fluid Dynamics, Computational Programming and Numerical Methods Applied to Fluid Mechanics and Transport Phenomena such as Mass Transfer and Heat Transfer. Sónia Pinto finished the Ph.D. in July 2011. Then, Sónia Pinto won a Post-Doctoral Grant, in Mechanical Engineering domain, also funded by "Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia" (SFRH / BPD / 78262 / 2011). She started the Post-Doctoral Program in January 2012 and finished in August 2017, also in the field of Computational Fluid Dynamics, Computational Programming, and Numerical Methods, applied to Biomechanics. In September 2014, the Math Section of the Mechanical Engineering Department of FEUP invited Sónia Pinto to be an Invited Assistant Professor. Since March 2022, she is an Assistant Professor in the same Department and Section. She is teaching "Mathematical Analysis II", "Mathematical Analysis III" and "Computer Programming I" in the Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering and in the Bachelor in Engineering and Industrial Management; "Computational Fluid Mechanics" in the Master in Computational Mechanics; "Laboratory Projects" and "Dissertation" in the Master in Biomedical Engineering; and "Dissertation" in the Master in Mechanical Engineering. At international level, she was invited by University of Maryland Baltimore County (USA) and McGill University (Canada) to give lectures and workshops on "Computational Fluid Mechanics applied to Hemodynamics". The research interests of Sónia Pinto are in the Computational Domain (Computational Programming, Numerical Methods, Mathematical Analysis, Artificial Intelligence) applied to Biomechanics (main research topic) and Thermal Energy (recent research topic), being an R&D member of the research group LAETA - interface institute: INEGI. She publishes several international (indexed) papers, per year, and organizes several symposiums for congresses. She has been the supervisor of several students in their dissertations, in academic and industrial environments, examiner of several national and international theses, and reviewer of several international (indexed) papers. Among many other activities, she has also participated in many national and international R&D projects as principal investigator, co-coordinator, and researcher; and she has been an expert evaluator and consultant of international R&D projects funded by the European Commission (Horizon 2020) and by specific countries (Canada, Hungary, Republic of Serbia, Slovakia).

2021/10 - Atual Prof. Rosaire Mongrain from the Mechanical Department of McGill University, a public university of Quebec, Canada, has invited Sónia Pinto to be Co-Coordinator (coordinator in Portuguese institutions) of the multi-disciplinary project involving Canada and Portugal. An approved R&D project is "Development of a coronary phantom for testing a FFR co-registration technology", funded by NSERC. 2021/03 - Atual In CADS-FACT project, that Sónia Pinto is leading, several Institutions of the public sector are participating such CHVNG/E, FMUP and UA. The numerical methods, numerical simulations and programming knowledge of Sónia Pinto is important to obtain non-invasive results, which medical doctors can only obtain invasively, in the hospital, for the patient. Moreover, this validated numerical software to obtain non-invasive results reduces the risks for the patient and the costs to the hospital. 2018/01/01 - Atual INEGI has been the Principal Contractor in which Sónia Pinto is coordinating and leading national and international R&D Projects, such as "Coronary Artery Disease Numerical Simulation and Functional Assessment by Advanced Computed Tomography - CADS-FACT" funded by "Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia" (Principal Investigator of the Project); and "Development of a coronary phantom for testing a FFR co-registration technology" approved by the Natural Science and Engineering Research Council of Canada (Coordinator of the Project in Portugal). 2018 - Atual The CeNTI company has the interest on increasing in the field of Numerical Methods domain in Mechanical Engineering. They are specialized on experiments, analysis, product development, prototyping and fabrication in several fields, regarding many R&D Projects. Thus, the CeNTI team has invited Sónia Pinto, expert on Numerical Methods, Numerical Simulations and Programming, to collaborate in their interest. 2015/11 - Atual Grupo de Acção Social do Porto - G.A.S. Porto (Social Action Group of Porto, Portugal) Sónia Pinto has been part of a NGO since November 2015, G.A.S. Porto, founded at the Engineering Faculty of University of Porto, Portugal. She contributed to the raising of a significant fund, being part of the Chief Organization of a Solidarity Walk (July 2017). There are many Projects in G.A.S. Porto. Sónia Pinto is a volunteer in a project to help Homeless People. Volunteering is being present and listening to the other, expanding our personal limits through the humanitarian experience, connecting ourselves with the deeper meaning of Life.
