Fernando Cagide obtained his Bachelor's degree (2002) in Chemistry at the Chemistry Faculty of the University of Santiago
de Compostela and his PhD (2009) in Organic Chemistry at the Chemistry Faculty at the University of Santiago de Compostela.
His Ph.D.thesis was focused on the area of Organic Chemistry, and the research was related to the synthesis of natural product
of marine origin such as tetrodotoxin (a toxin present in a large number of species) and alkaloids extracted from plants such
as pancratistanin (present in the family of Amaryllidaceae). In 2011, He was started a post-doctoral stay at the Faculty of
Sciences of the University of Porto, with a postdoctoral fellowship by FCT (SFRH/BPD/72923/2010), focused on the area of Medicinal
Chemistry. During this period, he participated in the synthesis of several families of compounds and evaluation of the biological
properties: as their enzymatic inhibition properties in Acetyl- and Butyrylcholinesterases (AChE and BChE, respectively)
and Monoamine Oxidase (MAO-A and -B)), their cytotoxicity profile evaluated in cell-free and cell-based assays, and their
antioxidant properties. Currently Fernando Cagide has a research grant under Decree-Law No. 57/2016, focused on the synthesis
and evaluation of new substances with antibiotic properties. In addition, Fernando Cagide has been the laboratory co-supervisor
of two Erasmus students, 11 Degree students in Chemistry and Biochemistry and from 2016 up to now, he has been invited to
lecture Undergraduate and MSc classes within the curricular units: a) Medicinal Chemistry, b) Advances Advanced Methods in
for Structural Analysis c). Methods of Structural Analysis Methods at FCUP. Additionally, Fernando Cagide has participated
in 25 funded projects, being the researcher responsible for one of them and has attended several national and international
scientific congresses: 11 Scientific Meetings, and he was a member of the organizing committee of 5 scientific international
events (E-confernce on Innovation in Microbial Control (2021), VIII Meeting of the Paul Ehrlich EuroPhD Network, 2018; EpiChemBio
(CM1406) and MuTaLig COST (CA15135) actions joint annual meeting 2017; 10th World Congress on Polyphenols Applications, 2016).
Over the years, he was also first author/co-author of more than 37 conference abstracts, 104 Conference poster and 57 Oral
presentation. Furthermore, Fernando Cagide is the author of 70 publications in international peer-reviewed journals (Free
