Raquel Nieto es profesora titular de Universidad en el área de Física de la Tierra en la Universidad de Vigo desde el año 2012 y doctora en Física por la UVigo desde 2005. Forma parte del grupo EPhysLab (Environmental Physics Laboratory), grupo “de excelencia investigadora” de la Xunta de Galicia. Su trayectoria científica, docente y profesional siempre ha estado vinculada con las ciencias atmosféricas y el clima. Su ámbito preferente de trabajo científico es el diagnóstico del clima, la disciplina que intenta comprender cómo se relacionan los distintos procesos físicos que afectan a la conducta de nuestro sistema climático. En el periodo pre-doctoral estuvo contratada, siempre a tiempo completo, en diversos proyectos de investigación en la Universidad de Vigo y en la Universidad de Santiago de Compostela desde 2001 sin interrupción. Antes de ser funcionaria y durante el periodo de post-doctoral ostentó una plaza investigadora durante 4 años como “Parga Pondal”, figura equivalente al Ramón y Cajal autonómico. Además, realizó una estancia de 3 años en la Universidad de Lisboa dentro del grupo de Geofísica (CGUL-IDL) durante los años 2006-2008, uno de los más potentes en Europa en temas climáticos, becada por la Fundación de Ciencia y Tecnología (FCT) del Ministerio de Ciencia de Portugal. Es autora de más de 100 artículos en revistas internacionales indexadas en el SCI y más de otra veintena de diversas publicaciones en otras revistas, libros o proceedings. Fue premio Internacional de la Sociedad Europea de Meteorología (EMS-European Meteorological Society) para investigadores menores de 35 años en 2009, Premio Internacional 2011 Outstanding Young Scientist de la EGU –Unión Europea de Geofísica-, y Premio Internacional 2013 de Meteorologia ‘Eduard Fontserè’ otorgado por la ACAM. Figuró en el consejo editorial Atmospheric Science Letters, Pure and Applied Geophysics, The Scientific World Journal: Atmospheric Systems, y sigue siéndolo de Frontiers in Atmospheric Science del grupo Nature. Su labor investigadora le ha llevado a participar en más de 35 proyectos investigadores financiados por la Unión Europea, el Ministerio español responsable de Ciencia o por las diferentes Consellerías de la Xunta de Galicia, siendo IP de 3 concedidos por la Xunta de Galicia, 3 del MINECO, y 1 de cooperación europea.
