My research focuses on the study of the role of the interactions between host, vector and pathogens on the transmission dynamics of pathogens that affect wildlife and humans. Currently, I am a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Balearic Islands, studying the prevalence of diseases transmitted by insect-vectors to wildlife, livestock and humans. EDUCATION: PhD in Integrated Biology (funded by FPI Spanish grant) at Doñana Biological Station (EBD-CSIC) under the supervision of Dr Jordi Figuerola, Dr Josué Martínez-de la Puente and Dr Laura Gangoso. PhD dissertation in July 2018, obtaining the highest qualification (sobresaliente Cum laude) and the of International PhD RESEARCH ACTIVITY: I have published 16 SCI articles in areas including Ecology (Molecular Ecology), Parasitology (Parasites & Vectors) and Emerging Diseases (Emerging Infectious Diseases). Twelve of these papers are published in Q1. These publications have accumulated 190 citations (H-Index=9; source Google Scholar). I have also published 2 non-SCI articles. I have participated in 8 R&D projects funded by European, National, and Institutional entities, being Co-PI of two of them. I have broad international experience. During my PhD, I was funded twice by the MINECO to carried out studies in Biosafety Laboratories level 3 (BSL3) collaborating with international researchers. I was 3 months at Institute Pasteur (Paris, France) in Pardigon¿s lab, developing experimental infections by West Nile Virus in Culex pipiens, and 3 months at Wadsworth Center (New York, USA) in Kramer's lab, where I identified the competence of Spanish Aedes mosquitoes for the transmission of Zika virus (one publication in Emerging Infectious Diseases). After my PhD, I moved to the Arthropod Genetics lab, at The Pirbright Institute (UK), where I was hired as a Research scientist in the Project Predicting and preventing flavivirus spillover, developing plasmids to obtained mosquitoes unable to transmit flaviviruses (4 months). Next, I obtained a Postdoctoral contract at CIBIO-InBIO (Portugal) in Loiseau's lab until 30/06/2020. In this project I have led a field expedition to Sao Tomé y Principe (Africa) in collaboration with researchers from France and four manuscripts are in preparation. After that, I obtained a postdoctoral grant (two years) from the Government of Balearic Islands to move to the University of Balearic Islands. I have presented my studies in 15 International and National Congresses. I was an invited speaker in the IX Jornadas Enfermedades Emergentes (Barcelona, 2019) and at CRESA (Centre de Recerca en Sanitat Animal). My works have been awarded by The European Ornithologists Union and I have obtained grants from Promega Biotech and the European Program AIM-COST. OUTREACH ACTIVITIES: I have published outreach articles in "La Cuadratura del Circulo", "EuroWestNile Newsletter", "Hidden Nature" and "Quercus" and I have participated in different editions of the Science Fair of Seville and The European night of researchers. I have also been interviewed by newspapers, and my works featured in the press (Agencia SINC, Agencia EFE). TEACHING EXPERIENCE: I have participated as a teacher in the subject Sampling Methods in Ecology at the University Pablo de Olavide and Zoology and Parasitology in the University of Balearic Islands. In addition, I have been a supervisor of students. OTHER MERITS: I am a member of the Editorial Board of the SCI journal Acta Biológica Colombiana and a reviewer for the SCI journals Plos One, Ecology, among others. Membership of the Sociedad Española de Virología and Sociedad Española de Etología y Ecología Evolutiva, and in the AIM-COST European Program.
