In 2009 I obtained my BSc degree in Veterinary Medicine, at the State University of Maranhão (UEMA) – Brazil, with a final score of very good (17.0; 0-20 scale) where I received a scientific initiation scholarship for three years. During this period I performed my BSc project entitled: Occurrence of anti-Brucella abortus agglutinins in cattle herds on the island of São Luís - MA. During my degree project, I evaluated the presence of anti-Brucella abortus agglutinins in cattle herds and guided small rural producers involved in the project on the risks that this zoonosis causes to human and animal health. In 2011/2013, I performed my MSc project at the University of São Paulo (USP) – Brazil, under the supervision of Dr Rubens Paes de Arruda at the Semen Biotechnology and Andrology Laboratory – LBSA (USP). During the MSc, I worked in the areas of bovine and equine andrology, reproductive management, semen analysis of production animals (cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, horses and poultry), semen cooling and cryopreservation, flow cytometry and fluorescence microscopy, use of fluorescent probes, preparation of media, physiology of female equine reproduction, artificial insemination in horses, transfer and cryopreservation of equine embryos. During this period I studied the evaluation of the role of nitric oxide in the capacitation of cryopreserved equine spermatozoa, which allowed me to acquire experience in the area of flow cytometry. In my MSc defense, I obtained a final score of (17.0; 0-20 scale). In 2013/2017 I performed my PhD project in Pharmacology and Biotechnology at the São Paulo State University (UNESP) – Brazil, under the supervision of Dr Fabíola Freitas de Paula Lopes at the Cell Biology and Development Laboratory. During my PhD I gained even more experience in Reproductive Biology and Biotechnology by having worked with gametes, embryos, heat stress, cellular stress, thermoprotection factors and microRNA profiling. Throughout the four years of my doctorate I developed the thesis entitled: Cellular and molecular changes induced by heat shock in bovine spermatozoa. In this study we revealed that the impact of heat shock on bovine spermatozoa involves significant alterations in cellular responses and microRNA (miRNA) profiles, which collectively affect sperm functionality and embryonic development. In 2017 I moved to Portugal and restarted my life from scratch, trying to organize my personal and professional life in a different, more complete manner. I took this opportunity to look for new business contacts, internships and jobs. From 2019 to 2020, I worked as a voluntary PhD researcher at the Metabolism, Mitochondria and Hormones in Brain Disorders Group from the Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology, University of Coimbra. I acquired a strong background in performing enzymatic kinetic assays, ELISA, colorimetric and fluorimetric assays. In 2021, I worked as a volunteer PhD Researcher at the Mitochondrial Toxicology and Experimental Therapeutics Laboratory (Biotech, Cantanhede), headed by Dr Paulo Oliveira, these period, I had was awarded a Summer Research Grant for a MSc at the UC-Biotechnology - Summer Course Scientific Research, Interdisciplinary Development and Innovation in Cellular and Molecular Metabolism. Work performed at the Mitochondrial Toxicology and Experimental Therapeutics group, Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology, UC Biotech, Cantanhede. From 2021- 2022 I was a research scholarship (BI) at the Polytechnic University of Coimbra, within the scope of the project ECO-PIG - Development of an innovative feed mixture for outdoor finishing of males from local pig breeds, to benefit meat quality and production system sustainability and during this period I was invited to teach animal reproduction and pharmacology classes in the veterinary nursing course at the same institution. I am currently an auxiliar professor at the Integrated Master in Veterinary Medicine of Vasco da Gama University School (EUVG).
