Paulo S. S. dos Santos received the B.S. degree and M.S. degree in physical engineering from the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto (FCUP), Porto, Portugal in 2016 and 2018, respectively. From 2019 to 2020 he was a researcher at Centre for Applied Photonics (CAP) of INESCTEC, Porto, Portugal. Currently he just finished his Ph.d degree in Physical Engineeringat Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP) at December 4, 2024. His research interest includes the synthesis of complex and highly anisotropic plasmonic nanoparticles for highly performing sensing applications at near infrared wavelengths. This research topic is pursued in combination with rigorous studies on the development of optical fiber sensor configurations to potentiate the performance of the developed plasmonic nanoparticles. Also, the study between the complex interactions with plasmonic thin films and nanoparticles for chemical/biological sensing applications have been a continuous focus of the developed research work. In addition to the previous areas, Paulo also worked on the development of precise interrogation techniques, mainly based of source/detector fast modulation with deconvolution and spectral reconstruction methods, followed by practical development, implementation and validation of interrogation systems for multiple types of optical fiber sensors. Among the last two years he received recognition for his work with two best presentation awards at international conferences (AOP 2022, INL global photonics meetup 2023, SPIE Optics+Optoelectronics 2023) and national conferences (PRODEF UPorto 2022 and DCE UPorto 2023), with over 103 citations since 2020, his work has significantly advanced optical fiber sensors, including Bragg grating technologies, interferometric sensors, and plasmonic sensing systems.
